Your Starting Point Comes First
Your assessment begins with a conversation about your goals, training history, previous injuries, and what currently feels difficult.
We look at how you move and gently assess strength and mobility to choose suitable exercises and starting loads. Any guidance from your treating clinician is part of that conversation.
From there, we build a practical training plan and adjust it as you progress. You do not need to be strong or experienced before you start.
A Starting Point for Every Experience Level
New to Strength Training
Learn the movements, build confidence with the equipment, and start with a level of challenge that suits you.
Returning After Injury
Rebuild confidence in training with exercise choices and loads adapted to your current abilities and clinical guidance.
Ready to Progress
Refine technique, review your training, and work toward the next step with a structured plan and recorded progress.
Training for Everyday Life
Build a consistent strength routine around your work, family, goals, and ability to recover.
You do not have to be a powerlifter to benefit from strength training. We choose the tools and movements that fit you, from dumbbells and bodyweight exercises to barbells when appropriate.
What Your Coaching Includes
Clear instruction, an individual plan, and progress you can follow:
- Technique coaching: learn the movements and understand why they are in your plan.
- Individual programming: exercises, loads, and training frequency matched to your goals and recovery.
- Recorded progress: review your lifts, technique, and response to training, then adjust the next step.
Since 1996, I have coached people with different goals, abilities, and training histories. The aim is consistent progress you can build on.
“As a physician I find his knowledge of anatomy and muscle development unsurpassed.”

How We Build Sustainable Strength
Your plan adapts to how you move, how you recover, and what you want to achieve.
Choose the Right Starting Load
Start with a manageable challenge. Build load and complexity as your technique and capacity develop.
Learn the Movement
Practise with clear cues and useful feedback so you understand what you are doing and why.
Make Progress Repeatable
Use a schedule you can maintain. Review progress over time rather than judging every session by how tired you feel.
Manage Recovery
Account for sleep, stress, fatigue, and how you feel that day when choosing the session’s demands.
Adjust When Needed
If a movement causes difficulty, we adjust the exercise, range, or load and consider whether clinical guidance is needed.
An Adaptable Plan with the ILU Method
My ILU training method alternates high-intensity training with low-intensity sessions that support recovery. A lighter weight does not automatically make a session low intensity: effort, volume and fatigue also matter.
We record your work and use your technique, readiness and response to training to guide the next session. The goal is strength you can keep building over the long term.
Strength Training Questions
Do I need lifting experience?
No. We begin with your current abilities and teach the movements step by step. You do not need to train for a competition.
Can I return to training after an injury?
We discuss your history, current limitations, and any advice from your treating clinician, then choose an appropriate starting point. Read more about post-injury rehabilitation and returning to training.
What happens at the assessment?
We review your goals and training history, look at movement, strength, and mobility, and discuss a plan. Email first to arrange a time and receive the preparation details and forms.
How often should I train?
Frequency depends on your goals, schedule, and recovery. We agree on a routine you can maintain and adjust it as you progress.
