Diets Stink

I’ve had conversations with friends recently about nutrition. One friend said to me “look, It’s simple, do something active when you first wake up in the morning and then eat at tonne of protein. Then have a big lunch and a sensible dinner.” Another friend said “you’ve just got to eat less then you burn in a day”

Whenever I get into conversations like this I just find myself smiling and nodding and saying “that’s great, man. Glad it worked for you”.

I, myself, tend to do better measuring my macro nutrients. I eat a 40/40/20 ratio of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. This is actually not a large amount of food, so I have to eat every two hours. That’s between six and eight meals a day!

This approach is remarkably time-consuming and therefore I have a hard time getting people who live normal lives to follow it.

After 17 years, Of trying to help people fix their nutrition plans, the only thing that I can say for sure is that I don’t know for sure.

If you look at my website you know that I am a proponent of the APOE gene diet. This is a plan whereby your genetic structure is identified in the best course of eating is “assigned” to you. It’s got a strong base and science but even it has its flaws. I’ve had people on the APOE diet gain fat and completely blow a DEXA scan. So what is the answer?

It’s got to be something that you will do, it’s got to be something that fits into your life, it’s got to be something that fills biological requirements. If it doesn’t meet these criteria, It won’t work and you just won’t do it.

Atkin’s; South Beach; The Zone; The Protein Diet; The Ornish; or anything else will work – if you work it. You Kinda have to do it. And more than this, you have to experiment with what works for you.

Lots more on this plus a great article where experts smash the ‘calories-in-calories’ out approach to weight loss on my page!
